Spring Athlete Award - Grace Queen

The Spring Female Athlete Award winner is Grace Queen from Union Pines Women’s Soccer.

Grace just completed her senior year at Union Pines, where she has been for three years. She has been playing the sport since she was around four years old. “I love the adrenaline, the rush of running down the field and getting a goal at the end, friendships and achieving goals together as a team,” said Sarah.

Grace led her team on the field with 115 shots, 30 goals, and 73 points. Stats are great, but to Grace, what made this season special was hitting team milestones together. “What made this season so special is that we had the talent and drive as a team to make school history and go to the fourth round of the playoffs,” said Grace. “Beating Pinecrest was a good feeling; it was an adrenaline rush, how the team came together the entire season.” Grace is a two-time winner of the sportsmanship award at the Britany Showcase Tournament in Wilson.

Grace has also hit the 100 career goals mark, was a three-time all-conference, two-time all-region, and two years as varsity team captain.

Outside of soccer, Grace was in the LEO club, president of the spirit club, and managed the men’s soccer team. She finished her year with over a 4.0 GPA.

Grace plans to get her associates in nursing through Sandhills Community College, and then plans to attend UNC Pembroke to complete her schooling to become a Nurse Anesthetist.

“I want to thank my mom for my success; she always pushes me to be the best version of myself,” said Sarah. “She always taught me to try to put one foot forward and always wear a smile. She has always pushed me to be better and try different things.” Although trying different things, soccer was Sarah’s first love, and her mom helped her be the best leader and captain she could be.
