Mustangs and Falcons set to begin post season

The Mustangs:

The North Moore Mustangs completed the season under .500 with an 8-9 overall record and finished fourth in their conference with a record of 5-7. With more freshman and sophomores on the field then coach Kennedy is used to playing, it took time for the Mustangs to adjust to positions. They were also fought several injuries throughout the season, but the Mustangs look forward to having their prayers ready to go this post season. “We have had a couple injuries to some key players, and we’ve had to play the majority of games without our best possible lineup," said Kennedy. “The good news is we’ve had other players emerge through that and now all those guys that were injured are back with us now, and they’re getting stronger every day so I kind of feel like we’re peaking at the right time and hope that it’s enough to get us to where we want to be entering the postseason and conference tournament.”

They will look for seniors Dawson Futrell and John Carre’s bats this post season. Futrell leads the team in home runs (4) and in RBI’s (19). Carre leads the Mustangs with a .509 batting average, stolen bases (6), runs (17), and in hits (27).

“We will be playing Chatham Central again for the third time in six days, we split with them in the first two and so we’re looking to come away with the win today,” said Kennedy.

The Mustangs will get their postseason started on Monday against Chatham Central at home. They snapped a four-game losing streak against Chatham Central on Friday with a 7-1 win. Carre had a dominated from the mound when he struck out 12 batters and only giving up three hits. Earlier last week, Chatham Central won 12-5 against the Mustangs on the road.

“We’re doing everything we can right now to kind of lock-in and focus on playing hard every game,” said Kennedy. “We have made it to the point of the season now where you have to win to keep playing, I believe if we can keep our energy levels up and play through adversity and play hard even if we’re down or if we’re winning just keep playing hard every inning we have a chance to be successful down the last stretch of this season. It’s Baseball anything can happen on any given night, and we just want to do the best we can to win a ball game and extend the season one more game.”

The Falcons:

The O’Neal Falcons will begin their conference tournament on Tuesday against 14-7 Village Christian Academy. The Falcons finished the regular season 5-7-1 overall and 4-4 in the conference. Opponents outscored the Falcons 113-81, but they enter the postseason with two straight wins.

Village Christian Academy has defeated the Falcons twice in March. The first game was a 13-2 loss at home for the Falcons, a week later the Falcons traveled to Village Christian and was shutout 9-0. The Falcons will look to senior Jake Shepherd at the plate, he leads the team in BA (0.471), OBP (0.578), HR (3), Hits (16), and RBI’s (21).

First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
