Falcon Weekly Recap

A weekly recap of O'Neal Athletics

Boys Varsity Golf
O’Neal vs. Burlington Christian Academy: 237 to 254, W
It was an exciting week for Falcons golf. Our first full week of training showed great progress and strong performances from both the middle school and varsity teams. The varsity squad earned a win in their first match of the season against Burlington Christian Academy.

Luke Valkovics led the Falcons with an impressive 76. Sam Sandhu followed with a 79 and Timothy Hu added an 82. Andrew Hobbs shot a 90 , and Charlie Monroe finished with a 91. The Falcons’ three counting scores totaled 237, defeating Burlington Christian Academy’s 254.

Varsity Girls Soccer
O’Neal vs Village Christian Academy: (OT) 3-4, L
The Falcons opened their season against conference opponent Village Christian Academy. Taking the match into double overtime was not the start the Falcons had hoped for, and the final result did not reflect how the game was played. O'Neal controlled much of the match but struggled to keep several strong shots on frame.

The Falcons found the back of the net three times during the game. Sophomore Sydney Davis opened the scoring by intercepting a goal kick from the Knights. With one touch she settled the ball and struck it into the net to give the Falcons a 1 to 0 lead heading into halftime.

Senior captain Jordin Reed later connected with 8th grader Haddie Habets, sending a perfectly timed pass to Haddie as she made her run. Habets finished the play by sailing the ball past the goalkeeper.

Freshman Kat Davis added the Falcons' final goal after stepping in on a Knights clearance attempt. Receiving the ball at the top of the 18, she struck it cleanly into the back of the net.

The Falcons took away several valuable lessons from the match and are feeling ready for their next contest, the home opener against Northwood Temple.

Varsity Boys Tennis
O'Neal vs. Grace Christian Raleigh: Final 1-8, Loss
The Falcons kicked off their spring 2026 season with a home match against Grace Christian Raleigh on Tuesday, March 3rd. The weeks leading up to the match saw the team working hard at practice, holding several challenge matches, and starting to build chemistry for team match play to come.

When match day arrived, the Falcons competed hard in singles play. The boys saw tough competition from the Raleigh team. Grace Christian secured all 6 singles matches. Nathan Reifenstahl at line 3 put in a solid competitive effort pushing his opponent 4-6, 2-6. The Falcon's tennis team had a little more luck in doubles play to follow.  Seniors and co-captains Ethan Kim and Nathan Reifenstahl battled to win 8-4, notching the first win of the season.

With three big matches on the schedule next week, the Falcons are eager to get back on the court for some conference play.

Varsity Boys Baseball
O’Neal vs Village Christian Knights: 13-0, Loss
The Falcons took the field for the first time this season on Tuesday for an away game versus VCA. Although the score looks lobsided, it was a close game for the majority of the contest.

Errors allowed runners to cross home plate, but the bats for O'Neal were consistently putting the ball in play allowing opportunities to score. Liam Enslin got on base with 2 walks and Parker Fusonie had a deep fly ball hit to left field.

The Falcons look to get a win on the board today, 3/6, at home against Northwood Temple at 3:30 pm! Be sure to come out for the Home Opener and check out the new scoreboard in center field!
