Moore County National All-Stars Headed to State
The Diamond Youth Baseball (DYB) District Tournament wrapped up on June 20th in Locust, NC. For the second year in a row, the Moore County National All-Star team finished undefeated, securing back-to-back district titles.
This group of 9- and 10-year-olds has something special. Many of them have been playing together for multiple seasons, and that chemistry showed up in a big way throughout the tournament, not just about the wins, but of how they earned them: with heart, hustle, and a team-first attitude.
Throughout the week-long tournament, Moore County went 6-0, taking down tough teams from across the region. They opened strong with a dominant 17-0 win over North Stanly, followed by a tighter 7-5 rematch later in the week. They edged out South Stanly 6-5 in a nail-biter, and shut out both Anson County (10-0) and West Chatham (12-0), before closing the tournament with a hard-fought 7-5 win in our second game against Chatham.
Every game was a test of their resilience and teamwork. From clutch hits to lockdown defense, each player stepped up when it mattered most. These boys showed what it means to play for something bigger than themselves—each other, their families, and Moore County.
“The feeling has been proud overall, after going undefeated last year, we knew we wanted to try to repeat this year most of these guys have played together several years and share a special bond,” said Clifford Sheffield, Head Coach. “So seeing them win back-to-back district titles and go undefeated two years in a row, it leaves us with a heavy sense of pride for what they accomplished and the way they did it.”
Now, we turn our attention to the next chapter: the DYB State Tournament in Gastonia, NC, starting Saturday, July 12. The Moore County team will start the tournament at 3 p.m. against Duplin County. Facing the best teams from across the state, their goal remains simple: “To continue to represent our county the best way possible, the state tournament brings the best from each district together so we’re excited to go represent Moore County and do our best to bring a DYB state title back to Moore County,” said Sheffield.
Whether it’s their first all-star season or their second run at a championship, these boys have already made our community proud. Follow Moore Daily Sports for updates throughout the tournament.
