Pro Rodeo returns to Carthage

The Pro Rodeo returns to Carthage for the second year. After a successful weekend last year and will return bigger and better.

Last year attendance exceeding expectations with a Friday night attendance of nearly four thousand spectators. Rodeo Organizer Lane Scruggs told Moore Daily Sports that Saturdays attendance was less because of a complete washout. Despite the heavy rain, about two thousand people were still in attendance. This year they will add seating around the arena.

The excitement for the rodeo has been building since last year’s event with fans and contestants. “We expect a bigger contestant turnout this year since it was a success last year,” said Scruggs. “There are contestants coming in from as far as Oklahoma.”

The rodeo will be Friday May 16 and Saturday May 17, gates will open at 6:00 p.m. and the competition will begin at 8:00 p.m. Make plans to attend both nights, like last year there will be different competitors each night. Competitions include bareback riding, calf roping, steer wrestling, barrel racing, bull riding, and more. There will also be clown acts and entertainment.

“There will have a lot of top competitors. We’re really proud of our livestock. We’ve got several horses and bulls that have been in the NFR and PBR finals,” said Scruggs.

This year there will be more food trucks and vendors. Local FFA Chapters will be selling snack items. “There are more food trucks this year with all kinds of food,” said Scruggs. You can get fair desserts, burgers, tacos, and even country cooking.

Tickets are cash sold at the gate, 5 & under are free, 6-12 is $10, and adults are $20. There is a $3 fee to park, but all proceeds for parking will go to Moore County charities. It will be fun for the entire family.

You can stop by NCPR’s booth at the Carthage Buggy Festival this Mother’s Day weekend for more information, purchase rodeo merch or to just say hello. Make sure you tell them Moore Daily Sports sent you.
