After a weather delay wiped out Monday’s action, Moore County teams wasted no time making up for it. From explosive offenses to dominant undefeated runs, this past week delivered statement performances across the board, and a few teams are starting to separate themselves as true contenders.
Tuesday: Offense Erupts Across the County
Bats were hot to start the week, especially for North Moore and Pinecrest.
North Moore baseball exploded for a 19-4 win over O’Neal, while the Mustang softball team followed with a strong 16-10 win over Chatham Charter. On the courts, North Moore tennis battled but fell 6-3.
Pinecrest had one of the most dominant days of the week. The Patriots swept Richmond 9-0 in tennis, shut out Purnell Swett 2-0 in soccer, and rolled to big wins in both softball (17-5) and baseball (11-0). The Lady Patriots soccer team continued its impressive run, improving to 6-0-2 and climbing to #11 in North Carolina.
Union Pines kept its momentum rolling as well. The Vikings stayed perfect in multiple sports, softball edged Harnett Central 8-7, baseball won a thriller 7-6, and tennis dominated a doubleheader with two 9-0 wins to move to 10-0 on the season.
O’Neal tennis picked up a solid 6-3 win over North Moore, highlighted by strong singles performances, while baseball struggled against a surging Mustang lineup.
Wednesday: Statement Wins & Milestones
Union Pines tennis continued its dominance, sweeping another doubleheader to improve to 12-0, with Lane McPherson earning his 69th career win—a major milestone for the Viking program.
North Moore bounced back on the courts with a 6-3 win over Jordan-Matthews, while Mustang soccer delivered one of the most lopsided wins of the week, a 9-0 victory over Phoenix Academy.
Pinecrest stayed red-hot, sweeping Overhills 9-0 in tennis, beating Lee County 15-5 in softball, and taking down Purnell Swett 6-3 in baseball to stay unbeaten in conference play.
Union Pines boys lacrosse remained perfect with a 13-6 win, while the Lady Vikings suffered a tough 2-0 loss to Middle Creek. Baseball also dropped a 9-5 decision.
Thursday: Depth on Display Across the County
Thursday brought another strong showing across Moore County, highlighted by dominant performances on the courts and in lacrosse, while several events for North Moore were impacted or unavailable for scoring.
North Moore had a lighter results day, with golf at Chapel Ridge Country Club, track vs. Uwharrie Charter, and tennis at Uwharrie Charter all listed without reported results.
Pinecrest continued its dominance, especially on the tennis courts. The Patriots rolled past Jack Britt 9-0, improving to 3-2 (3-0 conference) behind another complete team effort. Jack Hage, Jacob Sumner, Bryce Corrado, Jackson VanHulle, Sawyer Dennis, and Carter Tung all picked up singles wins, while the doubles teams stayed just as sharp to complete the sweep.
On the field, Pinecrest lacrosse was just as impressive. The girls cruised to a 20-1 win, while the boys followed with a 19-1 victory, improving to 5-1 (3-0). Track results vs. Pine Forest were unavailable, and softball was set for a matchup at Southern Lee.
Union Pines continued to assert itself as one of the top tennis programs in the area with another dominant doubleheader sweep over Pine Forest, winning 9-0 and 9-0. The Vikings were nearly flawless across both matches, with Lane McPherson, Tucker Lloyd, Dominic Roett, Jace McPherson, Beau Blackwood, and Declan Thayer all picking up convincing singles wins. Friday: Statement Wins and Strong Finishes
Friday wrapped up the week with big-time performances across Moore County, highlighted by Pinecrest’s continued dominance and a huge all-around night from Union Pines.
Pinecrest stayed red-hot to close the week. The Patriots baseball team shut out Richmond 11-0 in a no hitter, improving to 8-1 (5-0 conference) and continuing their perfect run in conference play. On the lacrosse field, the Lady Patriots remained unbeaten with a commanding 22-6 win over Needham Broughton, moving to 6-0 (2-0). Pinecrest soccer also kept its undefeated season intact, defeating Jack Britt 2-0 to improve to 7-0-2 (1-0).
Union Pines delivered one of the most impressive nights of the week with multiple teams picking up wins. Baseball handled Harnett Central 10-3 to move to 7-3 (5-1), while softball stayed perfect with a 4-2 win, improving to 10-0 (6-0). The Lady Vikings soccer team dominated in a 6-0 win, and boys lacrosse remained unbeaten with an 18-11 victory, moving to 7-0 (3-0). Girls lacrosse battled but came up just short in a 15-13 loss to Croatan.
North Moore ran into a tough matchup against Uwharrie Charter, falling in both contests. The Mustangs dropped softball 20-6 to move to 4-4 (1-2) and fell in baseball 11-0, now sitting at 4-4 (1-1).
Sandhills Classical split its day, falling in baseball 12-2 to Northwood Temple, but bouncing back with an impressive 9-0 win in soccer over Christ the Cornerstone to pick up its first win of the season.
