Rodeo Returns for Third Year
The 3rd Annual Carthage Pro Rodeo is on. After a successful weekend last year, they are coming back to the fairgrounds.
Last year’s attendance exceeded the first year, with around 7,000 people attending over the two nights. “Attendance was great, we really appreciate all the fans and competitors that came out last year,” said rodeo owner Lane Scruggs.
Don’t let the numbers scare you—there isn’t a bad place to sit at the event, and this year there will be a big screen for viewing.
The excitement continues to build from year to year with vendors, fans, and competitors. “We had contestants from further away last year and expect the same this year. We will have competition coming from Oklahoma, Ohio, and even New York,” Scruggs said.
The rodeo will be held Friday, May 15, and Saturday, May 16. Gates will open at 6:00 p.m., and the competition will begin at 8:00 p.m. Make plans to attend both nights—like last year, there will be different competitors each night. Competitions will be the same as previous years, including bareback riding, calf roping, steer wrestling, barrel racing, bull riding, and more. There will also be clown acts and entertainment. This year will feature a new clown from Missouri who has placed in the top five among rodeo clowns.
With prize money higher than ever, it is sure to bring in even more competition.
“There will be a lot of top competitors. We’re really proud of our livestock. We’ve got several horses and bulls that have been in the NFR and PBR Finals,” said Scruggs.
Last year, there were plenty of food choices, including a coffee truck from Simply Coffee, a doughnut truck, fair foods, burgers, tacos, and country cooking. You can expect much of the same this year.
Tickets are cash only and sold at the gate. Children 5 and under are free, and everyone else is $20. There is a $5 fee to park, with all proceeds going to Moore County charities. It’s fun for the entire family.
