Athletes Around Moore - Briana St. Louis
Athlete Around Moore for August is Union Pines graduate Briana St. Louis.
For Briana St. Louis, what began as a secondary sport in eighth grade when she fell out of love with soccer is now her ticket to an athletic scholarship at the University of Kentucky.
The military brought her family to Moore County, where she quickly became a standout athlete. At Union Pines, she was part of the team that won the Apex Relays, one of her proudest achievements. Before moving, she helped her team in Texas capture a state championship.
Her success in both states reflects the consistency of her work ethic, on and off the track. A straight-A student, St. Louis graduated with a 4.2 GPA. She also served with S2S (Student 2 Student) and on the North Carolina Student Athletic Association Advisory, balancing academics, athletics, and leadership roles.
Briana excelled in both soccer and track during her three years with the Vikings. But her mother, Tami, said track is where her daughter truly found her stride.
“Although she excelled on the soccer field, her passion and talent have allowed her to accept an athletic scholarship to run,” she said.
At Kentucky, Briana will compete in the 100, 200, and 400-meter events while pursuing a degree in sports communication. She hopes her degree will lead to a career in sports broadcasting.
“I would love to interview people after football and basketball games,” St. Louis said.
Briana said she is eager for the next level of training and competition.
“I know the training is going to be different and harder, but I look forward to it and getting started,” she said.
Among her collegiate goals, she has her eyes set on the 100 meters.
“I know I’m going to improve, so I look forward to seeing how much my time drops,” she said.
The chance to face familiar competition also excites her.
“I also look forward to competing against South Carolina,” she added, “A lot of people I ran against in high school are there, and I have a lot of good friends there.”
Brianna is also the first Union Pines athlete to earn an SEC athletic scholarship, something she views as a milestone for both her and her school.
Briana expressed that as she steps onto the track in Lexington, she is motivated not only by the races ahead but also by the opportunity to keep proving what she is capable of.
