Lady Vikings Rack Up Career Milestones

It’s been a fall to remember at Union Pines for five standout ladies. Those five student-athletes are molding their legacies as Vikings.

In volleyball, senior Keira Rosenmarkle (#17) hit a major milestone right out of the gate. During the very first week of the season, she smashed her 1,000th career kill, an achievement that high school players reach for. Since then, she’s shown no signs of slowing down, adding more than 200 kills to her total. Keira currently boasts a kill percentage of 48.8%, with an impressive average of 4.8 kills per set. A four-year varsity starter, her best season was her sophomore year when she recorded 407 kills, and she’s on pace to challenge that again.

“Keira has been an amazing addition to our program this season,” said Head Coach Felicia Marks. “She has really brought fire and energy to the court and has stepped up big time for us in close games. We are very proud of Keira; she is a beast!”

Joining a different 1K club is fellow senior Allie Bauer (#4), who recently logged her 1,000th career assist. Another four-year varsity player, Allie, first made waves as a freshman with 333 assists, a personal season best she will probably pass this year. So far, she has tallied 289 assists this season with a solid average of 5.4 per set.

“We are so proud of her accomplishment of 1,000 career assists!” said Coach Marks. “Allie has been a leader on and off the court for the Union Pines Lady Vikings and truly embodies what it means to be a student-athlete. She’s the glue that holds our offense together.”

The Union Pines girls’ tennis team has also been stacking up achievements. They are undefeated and just clinched their 40th conference regular-season title. Contributing to the successful season are three players hitting major career milestones.

Junior Lynn Yoxtheimer notched her 50th career match win in August with a powerful performance against Harnett Central. Lynn, who finished 25-6 last season, is continuing her stellar form with a current record of 22-2 overall, 12-2 at No. 1 Singles, 3-0 at No. 1 Doubles, and 7-0 at No. 2 Doubles.

Senior Kinsley Creel has entered elite territory. Earlier this month, she became just the 55th Viking in school history to reach 75 career match wins, securing the milestone with a victory over Overhills. Even more impressive, she’s currently undefeated with a 25-0 her best season.

“Lynn is both athletic and unorthodox, hitting the ball on both sides with two hands,” said Coach John Frye

“Kinsley is an exemplary leader,” said Frye. “Her 75 wins place her in an elite status, and both she and Lynn are strong students, regional qualifiers, and all-conference performers.”

Rounding out the trio is junior Bella Edwards, who recently celebrated her 70th career win with a victory over Southern Lee. With a record of 24-1 overall and 14-0 in singles, she’s expected to join the exclusive 75-win club within a few weeks.

“Bella is a strong player and undefeated in singles,” Frye said. “She will become our 56th Lady Viking to reach 75 career wins — probably within the next two weeks.”

The Lady Vikings are not just setting records, they’re setting new standards for excellence at Union Pines. Both teams have a few weeks remaining and will be in the postseason.
