Viking Weekly Recap - May 9.

Union Pines had one of its most eventful weeks of the season, highlighted by deep postseason runs, dominant performances, and multiple teams still chasing state titles.

The #1 softball team continued its playoff surge, opening the week with an 11-3 win over #17 Western Harnett in the second round of the NCHSAA 6A playoffs. That victory improved the Vikings to 23-1 on the season and earned them a home matchup in the quarterfinals against South Johnston on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. They have defeated their conference rivals twice earlier in the season 17-6 and 9-5.

The #6 baseball team saw its postseason come to an end in a hard-fought 6-4 loss to #11 Harnett Central in the second round of the NCHSAA 6A playoffs. The Vikings closed the year at 17-10 after another strong season.

In boys lacrosse, Union Pines wrapped up a dominant regular season with a 19-0 shutout win over Wake Prep, finishing 17-1 overall and a perfect 10-0 in conference play. The first round of playoffs will begin Tuesday which the Vikings being ranked second in the 6A East will get a first round BYE. They will host the winner of 1 ranked5th Wake Prep or 18th ranked Cedar Ridge in the second round on Friday night.

Girls lacrosse fell on the road at Seaforth 19-13, finishing the regular season at 6-5. The sixth ranked Vikings will get a first round BYE on Tuesday and will host #11 West Brunswick in the second round.

Tennis saw mixed postseason results as Lane McPherson fell in the first round of the Individual State Championships at Cary Tennis Park, losing 6-3, 6-3 to Vir Datt of TC Roberson. Despite that, Union Pines advanced in the 6A team playoffs and will host East Chapel Hill on Monday, May 11 in the quarterfinal round.
