Viking Recap - 5/2

It was another headline-grabbing week for Union Pines, filled with dominant wins, milestone performances, and a few postseason challenges.

The Vikings baseball team opened the week in explosive fashion, defeating Western Harnett 17-4 in the first round of the conference tournament. However, they were edged out in a tight 1-0 loss to Triton in the second round, finishing the week 17-9 and now awaiting state playoff seeding.

Softball continued its historic run with a 15-0 win over Southern Lee, improving to 22-0 before suffering its first loss of the season, falling 5-3 to Triton in the second round of the conference tournament. The Vikings will now wait to see where they land in the state playoffs.

Boys lacrosse remained dominant early in the week, picking up wins over Terry Sanford (18-5) and Cape Fear (9-2) to improve to 16-0, before suffering their first loss of the season, falling 8-5 to Northwood.

Girls lacrosse also had a strong showing with a 17-1 win over Terry Sanford, while their matchup with Cape Fear was not reported.

Soccer stayed red-hot, defeating West Johnston 4-1 and then shutting them out 5-0, finishing the week at 17-4-1 (13-0) and undefeated in conference play.

On the tennis courts, Union Pines dominated Northern Nash 6-0 in dual team play, with standout performances across the lineup. Jace McPherson earned his 90th career win, while Tucker Lloyd reached 85 career wins. In individual regionals, Lane McPherson advanced to the semifinals, and the doubles team of Dominic Roett and Jace McPherson also reached the semifinals.

Track and field had an outstanding showing at the conference championships, with multiple event winners including Roger Patterson (100m), Corbin Weeks (800m), Andrew Davis (300 hurdles), and several relay teams, along with strong performances from Marie Weber and Mylee Scruggs on the girls side.
